As the parent of three young children currently attending LVUSD schools, Dallas originally ran for the School Board to advance technology integration and adoption, ensure continued strong fiscal stewardship and guarantee teachers, parents and the community at large had a voice in setting District policy.
Mr. Lawrence currently serves as the Board of Education representative to the District’s finance and technology committees where reducing the District’s budget deficit, closing the teacher pay gap and advancing a comprehensive district-wide technology program have been top priorities during his term.
Dallas has been an outspoken advocate for advancing arts and music programs throughout the district and for making substantial investments in the District’s technology program. During his term the District adopted a comprehensive technology roadmap and teaching philosophy that has become a model for schools nationally.
As the longest serving member on the District’s finance committee, Dallas has provided consistent leadership and oversight for taxpayer funds while working hard to close the teacher pay gap our incredible teachers still face.
Following the horrific actions in Florida and throughout the nation related to gun violence, School Board President Dallas Lawrence helped lead a comprehensive assessment of the District’s safety procedures that led the Board to invest more than one million dollars in upgrades in 2018 alone. In addition to identifying facilities and training, Dallas has been an ardent supporter of investing in student mental health and other safety net programs designed to identify and support at-risk youth in our schools. Today, Las Virgenes has the lowest student to counselor ration in the region.
Prior to his election to the school board, Dallas Lawrence was an adjunct instructor for the University of Southern California and previously served the United States Secretary of Education in the office of elementary and secondary education in Washington, DC working to advance effective early childhood reading and elementary math programs that would close America's achievement gap.
